Thank you to all who have come to help support the Briar E. Glenn Memorial Fund! The fund helps those who are in need of additional help to play the incredible sport of ice hockey.
Briar Glenn started skating at the age of 3. When he was 5, he decided to play ice hockey at the Medford Ice Rink. Back then, they still had a division called Atoms, which allowed the coaches to be on the ice with the players to guide them. He was on his 2nd year of Mites when Coach Dan noticed his aggressiveness and wanted him for the Squirt A team. That was the start of his first year of travel ice hockey. His PeeWee B year was the last year at Medford Ice Rink before they closed their doors. Pee Wee A year brought us to the Igloo Ice Rink and a wonderful new hockey family. Briar continued playing for the Jaguar organization for the next 7 years. In those 7 years, he was Captain 3 times. Bantam AA in 2007-2008 under coach John Larnerd, Midget Minor AA in 2009-2010 under Coach Dan Rudd and Midget Major in 2011-2012 under Coach John Donohue. He was very disciplined and dedicated to each and every team he was on and never gave up being a positive force even if they were losing 5-0.
This year we have 18 teams, playing 38 games, in 3 divisions. Players are coming from 4 states to honor Briar's memory. The proudest of these players, is surely Briar's brother. Evan will proudly represent his family on the Jaguars 18A team!
Briar will always be remembered as a wonderful son, brother, friend, and teammate. He will forever be in our heart, and never forgotten.
Currently the Special Olympics Ice Skating program is run out of the Igloo in Mount Laurel. The program continues to expand and improve and we continue to receive requests to participate from new athletes. This is great news and we are doing all we can to ensure we can accommodate these requests, but we also need coaches and volunteers to work with the athletes.
The program meets at the Igloo from 2:40pm to 3:40pm every Saturday starting at the end of September and running to Mid May.
If you have interest in volunteering and working with the Special Olympics Athletes please contact me direct and I will get you all information and answer any and all questions. You do not need to be a professional skater to work with the athletes! We have coaches available that can work on specific skills and programs. We really need partners/volunteers to work with the athletes as they practice skills and focus on balance and coordination.
